Modern Awards and Agreements Workshop
Bankstown Friday 12 March 9.30am – 1.00pm
Kirrawee Friday 19 March 9.30am – 1.00pm
This half day workshop will give you an understanding of the content of modern awards and assist you in understanding the impact of the changes which have come about from combining over 1400 existing state and federal awards into just over 120 national modern awards.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This workshop is relevant to employers previously covered by the federal system, as well as those who have come into the national system from 1 January 2010 as a result of NSW referral. This workshop will be particularly useful for business owners, human resource and payroll personnel, and anyone whose role requires understanding of awards and agreements.
PRE-REQUISITES: Although not compulsory, it would be beneficial for you to know the types of industrial instruments (e.g. Enterprise Agreement, NAPSA, AWA) that applied in your workplace prior to 1 January 2010, when you attend this workshop.
During this workshop, you will cover:
- National Employment Standards (NES) – what are they and when do they apply?
- Modern awards coverage – are we covered by a modern award and how do I find out?
- Pre-modern award instrument – Where did we come from as this affects what you do now?
- How do you gradually phase in increases and decreases in labour costs?
- Negotiating agreements - what you need to know about the BOOT and good-faith bargaining
- Useful contacts and resources
