Women in Business Mentor Program
A large percentage of new businesses are started by women often wanting to balance their working lives with family responsibilities and working from home. The Women in Business Mentor Program helps up-and-coming women business owners (mentorees) grow their business by linking them with experienced business people (mentors) and providing formal workshops.
The Program encourages co-operative learning between business people and uses mentoring, practical sessions and workshops to help women improve their business skills and boost their confidence.
Eligibility Criteria
Participants must:
- own or operate a small business between six months and two years;
- operate the business full-time;
- draw the bulk of income from the business as an owner or operator;
- be committed to growing the business and achieving commercial success.
Program Content
The Women in Business Mentor Program runs for 45 hours over six months, including introductory briefing sessions. The Program's four components include:
- business skills workshops (18 hours);
- business forums (five hours);
- networking event (two hours);
- one-on-one mentoring meetings (20 hours).
Each workshop is delivered by an experienced professional and provides an environment in which to strategically evaluate and plan your business growth.
One on One Mentoring
Each mentor is matched with a mentoree and gives 20 hours of their time throughout the mentor program. Mentors and mentorees are matched on skill sets and needs, rather than industry based. Our mentors are experienced business owners or experienced business managers and adhere to a strict code of confidentiality. Meetings of Mentors and Mentorees are flexible and set to suit the individuals.
Business Skills Workshops
The workshops cover business development planning (two workshops), financial management (two workshops) and marketing and strategic selling (one workshop each).
At the end of the Program, participants will have developed an appropriate business plan which covers the goals and objectives of their business.
Business Forums
The business forums include a mini expo and a business panel discussion which give participants a chance to share information and explore specific aspects of running a business.
The Networking Event
The networking event promotes the development and expansion of business connections. It does this by encouraging participants to associate with everyone taking part in the Program.
Benefits of the Program
Results from past Programs show a significant increase in business income, business employment levels and networking opportunities increase business networks and strategic alliances.
Cost
The program is subsidised by the NSW Dept. of State and Regional Development on a $1 for $1 basis. The total cost for each approved participant who complies with the criteria is $605 (inc GST).
