Case Study: How the BEC Helped with a Business Start Up

Background
In 2002, Nick Bradford packed his suitcase, left the corporate business world and started his own home based business in Sutherland Shire.  Nick's first step was to research his idea and market, do a feasibility study and book a business advisory appointment at the Business Enterprise Centre.

"At our initial appointment we talked about the business plan, core business, options available, profit and loss projections and the goals and vision for the business"  Nick Bradford, Director, Interwool said.

Three years on and Interwool is thriving.  "Our first three years have been remarkable,"  Nick continued, "the business has developed to a stage where we now export, have celebrated the cpening of our retail factory outlet last month in Taren Point and have developed our own fashion labels."

Nick and Kylie (Bradford) achieved their goals in their initial business plan.  "Kylie now works full time in the business, our product labels (Sheer Bliss and Carrigan) sell in 100 boutique stores in Australia and New Zealand and we have new goals and visions for greater growth."  Nick said.

Former Manager of the BEC, Rhonda mcGuire commented, "Nick accessed the experience and knowledge of our Business Advisors at the BEC through the free and confidential Business Advisory Service - which is funded through the NSW Department of State and Regional Development.  Nick also accessed Austrade's Tradestart program - specifically developed to assist new exporters."
